Carol Mathews, Director of Liturgy

Liturgy
Liturgy Committee

This group meets to oversee liturgical ministry development, to plan general liturgical seasons, and to serve as an advisory body to the pastor in worship matters. Members are chosen through a discernment process. Liturgical ministries currently supervised are listed below.

Readers
Readers (Lectors) proclaim scripture readings during the Liturgy of the Word at all weekend liturgies, as well as leading the congregation in the Prayers of the Faithful and making necessary announcements. Parishioners high school age and above are invited to serve. Training is provided and schedule is flexible.

Communion Ministers

Special ministers assist with the distribution of Communion at Mass. Some take the Eucharist to the sick and to shut-ins. Candidates must be at least 16 years of age and be able to attend a diocesan training program.

Ushers

Ushers assist with seating, take up the collection, and invite families to participate in the Offertory Procession. Men and women of the parish are invited to serve in this ministry. Schedule is flexible.

Greeters

We are especially interested in providing parishioners and visitors with a sense of welcome and greeting. Individuals and families are invited to this ministry. Schedule is flexible.

Servers
The opportunity to serve at the Eucharistic Table is open to adults and children fifth grade and above. Training is provided.

Liturgical Environment & Seasonal Decoration

Parishioners prepare the worship space with fabric, flowers, and other objects for various liturgical seasons and rituals. A design team plans for overall seasonal change. New helpers are always welcome, and fresh ideas are always appreciated, especially for special events.

Mass Coordinators
This ministry assists in making sure all is ready for Sunday Mass. Coordinators check that vessels or objects for Mass are put out, and that ministers have arrived. Schedule is flexible.

Sick & Homebound

Please be sure to contact the parish when someone in the family is hospitalized; hospitals are not permitted to notify the parish without prior consent of an admitted patient. If surgery is anticipated, you are encouraged to receive the sacrament of anointing the sick, preferably before entering the hospital. While most hospitals do provide communion for their patients, we will be more than happy to bring the Eucharist to you if the hospital does not offer this service. We are also willing to bring communion to anyone who is at home and unable to come to Mass. Communal anointing at weekend masses occurs once or twice a year.
