Formation Commission

We are committed to life-long learning and discovering who God is in our lives.

Christian Formation Program (CFP)
Our Christian Formation Program serves the families of Holy Spirit by providing quality religious education for the children of the parish. Preschool classes (ages 3 & 4, and 5 year-old's who miss the Kindergarten cutoff) are held during the 10:30 Mass on Sunday.  Kindergarten through Sixth grade meet either on Wednesday evenings, either early (5:00 to 6:15) or late (6:45 to 8:00) or on Sunday mornings (9:00 AM-10:15 AM). Pre-registration is required for all classes. For students in 7th and 8th grade, please see information below on Junior High Youth Group. All registrants must read the Policies and agree to them. Registration weekend is held in the late summer and will also be available online beginning in mid-July. Classes are held September through April. See drop-down menus (below) for calendars. Call Mary Kay Ryan at the Parish Office to enroll your children in CFP.

Religious Education Calendars

Toddler Program/Child Care
Holy Spirit trains and supervises all child care workers, both adults and youth.  (Click here for child care policies.)  Child care can be provided for nearly any parish meeting if requested.  In addition, we provide child care for Toddlers and preschoolers during the 10:30 Mass each Sunday, excluding holidays.  The Child Care room is located in the classroom area below the gym.  No registration is necessary for Sunday Mass but there may be a limit to the number of children that can be accomodated. If you'd like to the join the child care staff, review the policies on-line and call Heather Webb at the Parish Office, ext. 384, to receive an application.

Children's Liturgy of the Word
Occasionally, school-age children are dismissed from Mass to participate in a separate Liturgy of the Word, designed for them. This takes place during the 10:30 Mass and is led by volunteers from the community. It is the hope of the Formation Commission to increase the number of trained volunteers and frequency of Children's Liturgy in the coming months.

Junior High Youth Ministry-CFP
Youth in 7th and 8th grades have the opportunity to participate in our Junior High Youth group which meets Sundays from 6:00 - 8:00.  These meetings consist of an hour of learning about the faith that is followed by an hour of group activities, refreshments and prayer.  The learning part of the meetings are based on a 6 week long mini-course.

High School Youth Ministry
Youth in high school have the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive program. They have the option to participate in lock-ins, retreats, social events, nights on the town, prayer nights, open gyms, and much more. Furthermore, high school youth are encouraged to participate with the parish in diocesan and national events.

Vacation Bible School
This program has been held in early June for one week. This Catholic version incorporates bible stories, games, crafts, songs and snacks. Lots of help is needed to keep this program going.

Adult Faith Formation

Adult Faith Formation Opportunities
Occasional programs/mini-courses/classes will be offered to adults and teens who would like to enrich their faith and their understanding of the Catholic Church.  Many of these are offered here at Holy Spirit, at Our Lady of the Presentation, or at other locations around the diocese.

Catechumenate (RCIA)
The Catechumenate or Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the
preferred way for adults to be received into the Catholic Church.  It is a slow and gentle process that allows people to learn about the faith and to prayerfully discern whether or not to join. It is for those who have never been baptized, as well as, for those who have been baptized in another Christian denomination. Members of the parish serve as sponsors and team members, helping people grow in their faith at their own pace. The actual sessions are held one evening a week, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the meeting rooms.

Scripture Study/Small Christian Communities
Several study and sharing  groups currently exist in the parish and may be open to more members.  Please call Ann Hayles for more information. Additionally, we would be happy to assist any group of friends or neighbors who would like to start a scripture group.

Summer Gatherings
Summer Gatherings is Holy Spirit’s version of “Bible School” for adults. Usually held in mid-summer on four consecutive evenings, it offers a simple evening meal followed by a presentation for adults and a program for children.

Vocations Committee
All of us are called by God to assist in the building up of the Church. The function of the Vocations Committee is to encourage all parishioners to be attentive to their vocation and especially to support and assist those who might be called to the Priesthood or Religious Life.
