The
following information about the St. James Soup Kitchen was
submitted by Deacon Frank Peak, manager of St. James Place.
"The
Social service outreach of St. James Catholic Church to the
midtown (Kansas City) area for many, many years was renamed
St James Place in July of 2002 when Bishop
Sullivan Center assumed responsibility for its operation.
This change took place to insure the continuation of these
services to an area so desperately in need.
Bishop
Sullivan Center is a 501 C-3 social service agency located
at 6435 Truman Road, Kansas City, MO. Bishop Sullivan Center
raises its funds privately, with only a very small
percentage coming from government agencies or grants.
St.
James Place's operation is dependent upon the generosity and
support of volunteers. The staff consists of only one 40
hour per week employee, the remainder of the over 225
individuals needed to "make things happen" each month are
volunteers. These volunteers come from all over the greater
Kansas City area. Various churches, businesses, sororities
and just groups of friends come together, and each month
assist in so many ways.
Each
month St. James Place provides food for over 600
families from its food pantry and serves
over 4000 hot meals through its soup kitchen.
The
Mission of St. James Place is to feed the hungry of midtown
Kansas City." |
