From its founding in 1979 through the
construction of the original building (affectionately known as
the ‘Hay Barn’) to the building of the first church in 1993,
Fr. Roger Miller, founding pastor, led Holy Spirit Parish
through its early years. In 1998 Fr. Miller retired for
health reasons; he went home to the Lord in March of 2005.
Fr. Michael Tierney was assigned as the second
pastor of Holy Spirit. A planning process was initiated in
the fall of 1999 and eventually the decision was made to move
to a new location. In April of 2005 the congregation broke
ground for our new building after selecting
Straub Construction Company as the general contractors.
The new church which was dedicated in September of 2006 by
Bishop Robert Finn.
The tower that you see as you approach the
building is intended to be a ‘beacon’ drawing people to the
Church, and to a relation with the Lord. The gathering area
(narthex) was planned to be large enough to accommodate the
many activities that happen both before and after Mass. The
church proper (nave) seats 980 people with the weekday chapel
that also serves as overflow seating. Along with the office
area, the multi-purpose room, meeting rooms, and classrooms,
we have a building that is intended to house the many
meetings, classes, and activities of a growing parish
Many new parishioners ask about a Catholic
School. It is certainly in our master plan, and it is one of
the primary reasons we purchased 20 acres. At this time we
are still facing a major effort of debt retirement which will
continue to occupy us for the foreseeable future. |
