Fr. Michael Tierney
|
 |
|
| Father
Tierney grew up in the Brookside area of Kansas City. He attended St.
Peter's Grade School and St. John's Seminary for high school. His
college and theology studies were at Conception Seminary in Northwest
Missouri. He was ordained in 1969. Holy Spirit Parish is the seventh
parish in which he has served. |
| |
| When he
came to Holy Spirit he identified three areas that are priorities for
him. First, and primary is the challenge for Catholics to become more
familiar with the Scriptures. We have a long way to go in appreciating
the wisdom of God's Word; we need to set it as the number one priority
and work at it. |
| |
| A second
issue is the need for involvement of all parishioners in the decisions
of the Church. This is clearly a goal from the Second Vatican Council.
We are learning that it is easier said than done. Not every parishioner
agrees on every issue. Reconciling differences of opinion is not always
easy, especially when they involve strongly held matters of faith.
|
| |
| A third
priority has to do with the Church's presence in the world. We need to
be present in the wider community, to proclaim our beliefs and values,
and to make ourselves available to serve those in need. |
