Tom Kodera

|
Tom Kodera comes to
Holy Spirit Parish as Music Director from Omaha, NE. Most recently he
served as Director of Music Ministries for Creighton University and St.
John’s Parish at Creighton University. After 25 years in Omaha, his
family moved to Kansas City, MO this summer when Tom’s wife (Shirley
Scritchfield) was appointed Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at
Rockhurst University. |

Initially, Tom obtained
a Ph.D. from Michigan State University and worked for many years as a
Developmental Psychologist specializing in infancy, early childhood, and
developmental disabilities. During this time, music was a very small
part of his life and work. Then about ten years ago, his passion for
music intensified. Music and music ministry became central parts of who
and what he is. Recently, Tom received a Bachelor of Music Degree in
Piano Performance from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

Tom particularly looks
forward to working with the choir, cantors, and instrumental musicians
at Holy Spirit to enrich the parish liturgies and further develop our
talent as we grow with the parish. Since Tom is also an active
composer, don’t be surprised if he “tries out” some of his musical
creations with the musician and the assembly. |

Tom
and his wife Shirley are parents of a son, Jon, who is a junior at
Northwestern University majoring in theatre. Jon is particularly
talented as an actor. |
